MEET SARAH
At 5 years old I can remember wanting to be a teacher, I would force my brother to play school with me as I taught circle time and make him participate in activities he was much too old for. The love of teaching continued though into high school where I was able to spend a class period each day in various elementary and high schools. In my senior year, I met a student who sparked my entire career path. She was inquisitive, independent, sassy and completely misunderstood by her general education teacher. I remember wanting so badly to understand her challenges and how to support her learning. I spent my senior year learning everything I could about Autism and supporting this one student.
My college path began at San Jose State University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Child Development. Motivated to further my education, I continued my studies at Mills College in Oakland, obtaining a master's degree in Early Childhood Education along with a special education teaching credential. I've spent over 10 years in the classroom and during that time I have become a wife, mom, travelled and rode the roller coaster of teaching in the public school education. My time in the field of education has been incredibly rewarding, and I am now eager to apply my knowledge and experience to support you and your child in a more specialized capacity.
A couple of fun facts: I love a good margarita, watermelon jalapeño if I have the choice. I am an avid watcher of all reality tv, you name it, I'm probably watching it and if I could, my bum would be in the sands of a beach 24/7.
MEET JENN
Wife, mom to 3, farmer, entrepreneur, cook, coffee + travel enthusiast. My journey in the SPED world started as far back as I can remember as I was the youngest of five kids. My sister closest in age was born with a medical disorder which also affected her development.
Fast forward 20 years and I myself gave birth to a daughter with an uber-rare genetic condition (completely unrelated to my sister's condition!). She was the 35th person diagnosed in the world and it has profound impact on her global development.
Eisley is now 10 years old and entering 4th grade! We knew something was off at 3 months old but were deferred from seeking help by her pediatrician (if you're not satisfied with your doctor or specialist, go elsewhere!). He could no longer deny something was wrong when she was only 12 pounds at a year old and could not sit up, roll over or speak.
I have spent the past decade fighting for her needs over and over and over. We spent the first 5 years fighting to keep her alive and the past 5 years getting her the supports she needs to grow and thrive. And I've learned a thing or two along the way thru the school of hard knocks. I'm passionate about coming alongside other parents to educate, encourage and assist to get their children what they need to give them the best outcome. You're child is magic and so are you. Let's work together and shortcut some of the hard lessons.
