Processing Time: Allowing your child to show their full potential
Jul 30, 2024Quick Tip: Processing Time
Processing time is so important and can make a big difference in the skills that you are seeing from your child. Processing time is the time it takes for a command to be given and a response to be elicited from your child. However, our quick tip is not on processing time but on allowing for processing time. Our kiddos with special needs require a little extra time/space when they are expected to respond or react. When we give the child the space they need you might be surprised with the skills they show. After giving a direction or asking a question, count in your head to at least 20 before prompting again. When I was in school and early training days they would say to make sure you count as such “one alligator, two alligator, three alligator” to ensure enough time for our children. Give it a go!
